Up Tempo’s source separation feature uses AI and machine learning to split a track into individual components, or “stems,” such as vocals, drums, bass, and other instruments.

The possibilities are endless!
Use this as a practice tool to:
Or use it to create karaoke tracks by muting vocals.
Or use it creatively (if you have permission from the original track creator):
This feature unlocks a world of opportunities for musicians, DJs, and music enthusiasts!
There are other apps that offer source separation, here’s what makes Up Tempo different:
For the highest quality source separation, we recommend using a desktop computer with dedicated software. Ultimate Vocal Remover is an excellent desktop computer tool for high quality separation - it’s not affiliated with Stonekick Limited in any way, we’ve just had great results with it and recommend giving it a try!
But for quick edits, experimentation, or on-the-go inspiration, Up Tempo is a powerful and portable solution.
Note: If you’ve generated stems using a desktop tool or another service, you can still import them into Up Tempo using the multitrack feature. This lets you take advantage of Up Tempo’s playback and editing capabilities with your pre-generated stems.
Yes! Once the app is downloaded and set up, the source separation feature works entirely offline. This makes it perfect for traveling or areas with limited data access.
Not at all! Up Tempo creates a separate file for the stems, so your original track remains untouched. You can easily switch between the original track and the separated stems within the app.
